History of the Xbox and Playstation

Here is a history of the Xbox and Playstation

Playstation:

The history of the Playstation begins in 1988 when Sony and Nintendo were working together to develop the Super Disk. Sony and Nintendo went separate ways, ending up with Nintendo not using the new Super Disks. Sony took advantage and used them in there new console, the Playstation. The earlier playstations could read Nintendo game cartridges. Sony then went on to make The Playstaion X, which could only read CD-Rom.
In 1999, The PS2 was announced. When it was released, it came with 28 launch games, the most ever in a game console.
On Nov 19, 2006, the PS3 came out. 81,639 consoles were sold in 24 hours.

Xbox:

The Xbox original was released in Nov. 15th 2001. The Xbox was known for top games like Halo. The Xbox was Microsoft first venturing into game consoles. They worked with Sega in porting Windows CE. The Xbox 360 is Microsoft's 2nd consoles. May 12 2005 is when the Xbox 360 was released. It is the first console to provide near simultaneous launch across the 3 major regions. It is also the first to provide wireless support at launch. In the 2nd quarter, they shipped 11.6 million worldwide.

Top Games (PS3 vs. Xbox 360 vs. PC

Here is a review of the top games for each system, the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and the PC
PS3:

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Uncharted 2 has amazing graphics, with jaw dropping set pieces around every corner.

The storyline is completely engrossing and lures you in. The main character, Nathan Drake, makes funny comments and the other characters casually toss bits of advice throughout levels. The characters are believable in there motives for doing what they do, which makes the game even better. The action in the game is amazing, let you get from cover to cover just like that. Different ways of doing each encounter is what really stand out in this game.

Xbox 360:

Halo 3

Halo is probably the best selling series of all time. Halo is a first person shooter where you are Masterchief. Halo 3 built on Halo 2 in obvious ways, but Halo 3 had some clever parts to it. One of theses part is forge mode, where it lets you create levels by adding new things to already existing ones. Also, Halo 3's online play is amazing, as it is addiciting and you can play it with your buddy on the same console. Many people own Halo 3, so you need not worry about nobody being on. Playing online will earn you expereince to rank up, and unlocking new armor can show everyone your skill at the game, making your guy look cool as well.

PC:

World of Warcraft

WoW has more than half of the world subscription of all MMO of all time, making it the most popular MMO in the world. If you don't know about WoW, it is and MMORPG, where you get a character and you level them up and gain experience. The game is only online so you get to interact with people through out the whole gaming experience. Dungeons require the assistance of other players, and there are features that support playing with other people versus soloing it out. It lets you join a group where your kind of person is needed, so it is very fast to getting with other players. Being only online, PvP (Player vs. Player) remains an integral part of WoW. There are battlegrounds where opposing members of opposite allegiances (Alliance and The Horde) do battle in a centralized area. Doing these battlegrounds earn you honor, which you can buy additional things. The actual world of "World of Warcraft" is huge, getting bigger every expansion. There are multiply ways of getting around, each way differing, like the use of flying routes, which are one ways trips, from getting a mount which you control and it increases your speed, to flying mounts, which are a combination of both, being able to fly and control it at the same time. Boats, trams, and more are also included in getting around.

PS3/Xbox 360 vs PC

I have been comparing the PS3 and the Xbox on this blog. I guess its time to do a PC comparison with the console system

To start, the PC is very upgradeable, where as you can buy a not-so good computer and upgrade it into a better one with out buying a new computer. The consoles are some what upgradable in terms of memory, where as you can buy a bigger hard drive, but that's about it. The PC you can change a plethora of things, such as RAM and the graphic card of the computer.

Also, the PC has more things to do on it then the consoles. The web browser on a PC is the standard, where as the one on the PS3 is mediocre at best, as it is slow, but serviceable in case of an emergency or a quick look at something. (The Xbox 360 doesn't even have a web browser.) PC can play browser games, instant message, and more.

Usually, there are not many console exclusive games that the PC doesn't has (in terms that the PS3 and the Xbox 360 both have it, and the PC doesn't have it. This is very uncommon). In fact, it is quite the opposite. There are many games that the consoles don't have (or couldn't play very efficiently) and the PC does. Starcraft, World of Warcraft, Torchlight, are all examples of games not on the consoles.

On the other hand, consoles are much more streamlined in terms of playing games. Just plug it and play. Not many other features to worry about, as consoles are designed to play games. Also, some PC are not very good, and can not play most games, where as the consoles are going to play its game not matter what, because all the games are made for the same graphic capabilities, which all the consoles are made by. No 1 gb RAM PS3 which won't play some game because of its RAM. This is the case with the PCs.

It just depends on how you look at it

Hardware

Each system, being made by separate companies, and different minds, are going to be made differently. Each of the two systems use different hardware.

PS3:
The gpu (graphics processing unit) is based on the NVIDIA G70 architecture. It makes use of 256MB GDDR3 RAM clocked at 550 MHz and up to 224MB of the 3.2 GHz XDR main memory via the cpu (480MB max)

Xbox 360:
Features 512 MB of GDDR3 RAM clocked at 700 MHz with an effective transmission rate of 1.4 GHz on a 128-bit bus. The memory is shared by the cpu and the gpu via the unified memory architecture

System Design

The Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3, obviously, look and react different.
The PS3 is made to be set up laying down horizontally, while the Xbox 360 can go both ways.
The Xbox 360 comes in 2 differnet colors, black and white, while the PS3 come in only black, even though it is a more glossy version.
The Xbox 360 had a disc tray that comes out, while the PS3 just makes you insert the disk into it.
The Xbox controller is more curved, with the left joy stick raised more than the right one, while the PS3 controller is more longer than the Xbox 360's, and the joysticks are on the same level.

Life of each system

The Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 have different life spans for each system. For example, the Xbox on average lasts only about 1 year before the Red Ring of Death strikes, which affects about 1 in 3 Xbox 360s, while the PS3 has a failure rate of about .02%.

Other System Review

From various websites on the web, I have read reviews regarding each system. Usually, these reviews said that each system was good and each system has its pros and cons.

Most websites liked that the Xbox 360 had many games outs and its superior online playing.
Likewise, reviews praised the Playstation 3 for its reliability and its design. I can agree with these.

Graphic Capability

From the reviews I've read, it seems that there are difference in graphic capability between the system. The Xbox 360 seems to have better lighting in the games, while the PS3 as sharper textures. Also, some of the PS3 games that were on the Xbox eariler, are the same graphically, even though they could have polished them up for the PS3.

What I view

Personally, I think that the PS3 is a better system than the Xbox. I am a fan of the Playstation, always have been. Playstation, Playstation 2, Playstation 3. But, this isn't what I think. This is a view on what game system is better based on facts. Not biased opinion. Just straight fact. So yeah
